Ugandan Culture
Barbra Nakisozi, June 12, 2023
Uganda is a hodgepodge of cultures and cuisines. I once heard that the English language followed other languages into an alley and mugged them. Now if that is true, Ugandan cuisines definitely followed the example and mugged other cultures and made a widely known and very specific range of foods we know now as Uganda cuisine. We have a wide variety of dishes and flavours, ranging from curries to stews, spectacular starches and delicious desserts, all representative of the different traditions and cultures represented in Uganda.
We have Acholi, Alur, Aringa, Bafumbira, Baganda, Bagisu, Bajwe, Bagwere, Bahororo, Bakiga, Bakonzo, Banyankore, Banyala, Banyarwanda, Banyoro, Baruuli, Basoga, Batuku, Batwa, Chope, Dodoth, Ik(Teuso), Iteso, Jie, Jopadhola, Kakwa, Karimojong, Kebu, Kumam, Lango, Lendu, Lugbara, Madi, Mvuba, Nubi, Pokot, Sabiny, Samia and Sebei.
