A Local’s Travel Guide to Hong Kong’s No.1 Destination – the Peak
Yvonne Chan, September 9, 2023
The Peak is the tallest mountain on Hong Kong Island– the metropolis’ CBD. Here, you’ll find panoramic bird-eye city views, lofty gardens, state-of-the-art museums, and more. Never say you’d come to HK without a trip to the Peak.
In this guide, see the Peak’s must-go spots and recommended routes that I- a local born and raised in HK- suggest.
Peak Tram

Getting to the Peak by the Peak Tram is the first fun part of your journey. In this 6-minute uphill (or downhill) ride, you will witness the city’s skyscrapers falling toward the Peak- an astounding illusion in this one of the world’s most famed and oldest funicular railways.

The Peak Tower- Sky Terrace 428
Getting off the tram, you’ll see this enormous U-shaped building- Sky Terrace 428. It is the highest sightseeing platform in HK, which offers a stunning 360-degree view across Hong Kong. Sky Terrace 428 opens from 10 am to 10 pm on weekdays, and 8 am to 10 pm on weekends and public holidays, and admissions are free. Take Instagrammable pictures on either the day, the night, or even both!

Madame Tussauds Hong Kong

Dance with Ariana Grande, practise martial arts with Bruce Lee, or be crowned the Miss Universe by Pia Wurtzbach! Visiting Madame Tussauds in Hong Kong is no like other- a star-studded museum with wax figures of world figures with a twist of introducing iconic Hong Kong celebrities– an engrossing experience.

Victoria Peak Garden

Few know that a 20-minute walk uphill from the Peak Galleria will lead to this perfect picnic place filled with happy dogs and merry families. Victoria Peak Garden was originally a summer residence place for the Governor of HK during British colonial rule, hence the British architecture. Unlike other bustling tourist spots, the Garden is my personal favourite– it gives you a tranquil bubble surrounded by greens for you to think and enjoy HK in another way.
