Though being an industrial state best known for its technology and industry, Germany isn’t as popular as its neighbors France and Switzerland as a tourist destination. Sun is rare, winters are usually grey here, and we have infamously late trains, so people often think, why visit Germany?
If you perceive Germans as straightforward and serious, and that Germany has only grey weather and “boring” places, then I think you went to the wrong places and in the wrong time.

Lübeck – 70 kms away from Hamburg

Braunschweig – about 200kms away from Berlin

Rothenburg (ob der Tauber) – 80km from Nuremberg
You don’t need that much effort to go to these places, as Germany has the largest rail network — spanning more than 30.000 km — and all it takes is just 10-20 Euros to get there.
Unfortunately, statistics have proven that people often visit bigger cities like Berlin, Munich, Hamburg, etc., leaving the gorgeous small towns unexplored.
Also, sunny weather is more of a preference than a must, as the weather is quite diverse here. Just like what the Germans often say, there is no bad weather, only bad clothing.
