My favourite food is Som Tam. It is a Thai dish and is very spicy. It is a spicy salad that contains raw papaya as its main ingredient. There are many types of Som Tam, however, the two main types are “Tam Thai,” which is slightly sweet and less spicy, and “Tam Pla Ra,” which is very spicy and slightly salty.
Nowadays, many people like to add extra ingredients to Som Tam to make it tastier to enjoy. For example, people add salted eggs to Tam Thai to reduce the sweetness and add more nutrients to the dish. Additionally some people add raw salmon, shrimp, or scallops to Tam Pla Ra because the ingredients help reduce the spiciness and provides protein.
When I eat Som Tam, I like to combine it with at least three other dishes, namely grilled chicken, Laab (spicy meat salad), and Tom Yum soup. However, some people may choose to eat it on its own, but some may choose to have it with fried chicken or the Thai version of hot pot.
For carbohydrates, there are several options to choose from, such as rice, glutinous rice, and Kanom Jeen (Thai rice vermicelli). Personally, I prefer to eat it with Kanom Jeen because it tastes better!
Som Tam is a favorite to have with relatives and family. It’s because this dish is easy to make and doesn’t take much time to prepare. Nowadays, this dish is popular all over the world and now has the identity of a Thai dish.
