With bustling streets filled with nice and generous people to wondrous and delicious food, Manila, Philippines is where the action is at and is my go-to place! Manila is the capital of the Philippines, and a place with life at every turn. It’s a place where the streets are always filled with positive energy, offering a unique blend of tradition and modernity. The warmth of the people is one of its most striking features and as a Filipino myself, I can guarantee almost everyone, including kids, are willing to share the “Pinoy” Spirit. We are known for showing off hospitality, kindness, athleticism, and our ability to always be ready to offer help. Oftentimes, managing to share a smile makes exploring the city of Manila not just enjoyable, but also a comforting experience.
Aside from the people, Manila is a food lover’s paradise. The city’s food is no joke! Its diverse cuisine includes influences from Spanish, Chinese, American, and local Filipino traditions. Along the sides of the streets, street vendors sell unique street food like fish balls and “balut” which can be either an incubated duck or chicken egg which is then boiled. For dining at high-end restaurants, they often offer traditional sinigang, a healthy sour-savory dish with a meat of your choice, and my personal favorite, adobo, which is a rich and creamy chicken browned after marinating in vinegar and other ingredients. The food is always rich in flavor and history. Every bite tells a story of the city’s vibrant past and the fusion of different cultures which never fails to disappoint. My personal favorite cold dessert, Halo-Halo, also known as “mixed” is made up of crushed ice, evaporated milk or coconut milk, and a variety of sweet ingredients. This treat will always hit the spot on hot, humid days in the Philippines.
Manila is also a place of action around every corner–there is always something to do. From historical sites like Intramuros to the huge, bustling shopping malls where you might get lost in, the city offers a myriad of experiences. Its vibrant nightlife always gives off a calm, relaxed sensation and beautiful parks filled with colors. Manila truly has a little bit of everything. Whether you’re looking to dive into our past which is located everywhere, to enjoying the local entertainment, or just having a good time with friends, Manila has it all!
The city can sometimes feel chaotic and possibly overwhelming, but that’s part of its charm and is what makes this place special to me. From the fast paced life to the street vendors, the sounds of jeepneys, and the mix of old and new buildings all around, it all makes this city have an enjoyable and unique atmosphere. This is a place where you’ll never run out of things to do. Here, every moment feels like an adventure to add onto your life story. For me, Manila is the perfect place to embrace the lively spirit of the Philippines, and it’s a destination I always look forward to returning to. Who knows? Maybe I’ll see you there one day!
